Standing ovation to Nicol Ann David for her world class achievement!! A real excellent comment from a coach who really knows a world class talented Nicol. Read on....

Every once in a while an individual comes along to dominate a certain sport and Nicol David seems to heading in that direction. Nicol dominated the junior scene with two world titles in 1999 and 2001. She has now stamped her mark at the senior level and her Australian coach, Liz Irving, believes that it is Nicol's destiny to dominate world squash.

"Nicol wants to win. She is challenged, driven by succeeding and has a purpose," said Irving on Saturday. "I think it's just her destiny. Really I do. You see it when she is on the court. Sometimes it's like the opponent is irrelevant," said Irving. "She is just doing what she is there to do and gets to the task. She is a very intelligent girl and sportsperson. She is very in tune with what she has to do.
She is not complete yet, not at all. That's even better, that's very exciting. She has years to grow. She is young. Women in squash reach their peak around 27 to 32 years. She is going to be a far better player than she is now in a few years."

Irving, who has been working with the 23-year-old Nicol for the last four years, also reminded that Nicol is only human. "Consistently she will dominate. I am sure of it. If she continues the way she is working. It won't be so interesting if she dominates too easily as well. You still want people to be able to be competitive to help the sport. Her dominance will be positive as long there is competition."

On court, Nicol has been compared to an energizer bunny since her junior years. She is so nimble on her feet and accurate with her shots that they make her the best retriever in squash. "Nicol does not rely on her speed for her strength. It's just a back-up. A lot of people are trying to improve their speed because of Nicol," Irving said. "But you can't because it's natural for her. It's not natural for many of the other girls. Natalie and Rachael have always been quick, that is really not going to change either. They are not going to get any quicker. "It's natural, it's either you have speed or you don't. If you have speed, you can work on it and be strong at it. There are a lot of big strong girls on the circuit. But they are not going to be as quick as Nicol because they are not in that build." Irving added that "Nicol must keep learning the true essence of the game – what the court gives you and how to handle the pressure and opponents."


Nicol's parent must be very proud of their girl!! That's so sweet... Time being, Nicol is unbeatable... She really stood out in the eyes of the world... and she's from Malaysia!! Congratulations Nicol!!
