The aftermath...

The most destructive natural events happened in Yogyakarta on Saturday, 27 May. Hitting 6.2 on the richter scale, this massive earthquake had killed about 5,000 lives of the poor families. They're also living in fear of the volcanic eruption of Mount Merapi waiting for the peak time to burst its' hot lava. I'm so touched with the disaster news although it does not happen here in Malaysia. Am thinking & finding ways on how I could help the victims.

Malaysia ready to help

Malaysia is prepared to provide whatever help it could to Indonesia to lessen the suffering of the killer earthquake's victims in Yogyakarta and central Java. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he had conveyed this message to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. "If it is financial aid that they need, then we will decide on how much we can give. This is quite normal. This is not the first time that we are offering help to Indonesia," he said at the Subang Air Force Base upon his return from Japan yesterday. Malaysia has already sent two search and rescue teams to the worst-affected areas.

Meanwhile, Indonesia said it needed help to deal with the sick, wounded and injured in the earthquake tragedy. Its Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said the medical relief and emergency response was the immediate assistance provided for the quake victims. "Of course, the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Yogyakarta are problems that we will have to face in the near future," he said on the sidelines of a Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting here yesterday.

Hassan thanked the show of concern by NAM member countries, especially neighbours Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, which acted immediately by sending medical and rescue teams to the disaster areas. "Likewise, a far away country like Cuba has decided to send, within 48 hours, a medical team of 100 doctors and medical assistants as well as medicine. We are extremely grateful. With our own capacity and the help from others, we are able to deal with the emergency response to this disaster," he said.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said Malaysia would be sending other forms of assistance to Yogyakarta to help ease the suffering of the victims. Extending Malaysia's condolences to the victims, he added: "We will think of other things that we can offer to help ease their suffering and pain."

Life is so short isn't it. We will never know what's our fate & future.
