Armed Forces' Ahmad Joyo Shaari will again compete in the professional category of the Langkawi Ironman Championship, which will be held on Sunday. The 38-year-old athlete, who clocked 12'05 and was placed ninth in his debut in the category last year, is determined to complete the race this time under 10 hours. He is among the five Forces athletes in the competition that requires participants to swim 3.8km, cycle 180km and run 42.2km. Ahmad Joyo's teammates are Kohing Antak (30-35 years category), Jasni Sharail (30-35), Jusrey Ghani (25-30) and Sanggup Richard (20-25).
"We want to be the best among the local teams," said team manager Rashid Daud after a training session here yesterday. Before coming here, the athletes underwent three months of training at the Sungai Udang Army Camp in Malacca.
Championship director A. Chandrakumaran said that 80 Malaysians had confirmed their participation in the race. Among them are former national cyclist Wong Ah Thiam, Che Mansor Khamis and Fiona Lim.
These hardcore triathletes will be competing in the "Toughest Show On Earth" Langkawi Ironman Championship on Sunday, 26 February 2006. Ahmad Joyo and teammates started off with Sprint Duathlon about 2 years ago, but now, they're so much above others in Malaysian Duathlon and Triathlon. They train with no pain no gain style and they've proven that nothing is impossible in this sport.
